I have finally, after months of debate with myself, come to a decision about the next computer that I am going to buy! There is no point in buying anything gimmicky or pretty that just wont be able to do what I need! I need raw power and there will be no cutbacks from getting it!
I am undecided on all of the specs that this PC will have but I can tell you that I have decided to build a Dual CPU computer running two 12M Cache, 3.33 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel® QPI, Intel® Xeon® X5680 Processors. That would pack a total of 12 cores running each at 3.33GHz that can go to a max turbo frequency of 3.6GHz. I will be buying one to start off with and the second one at a later date.
With these super fast processors I will have a motherboard that can support between 72 and 144GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM which will ultimately provide a super fast computing experience. The motherboard will have as a MUST at least 6 SATA2 connections for a hard disk array which will eventually total something like 10TB (I already have my first 2.5TB). It will also need an array of fast PCI-E slots so that I can have 7.1 surround sound outputs, USB3 (with a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle hooked up connected to my PS3) and much more!
To ramp up the graphics, I will be installing an ATI HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 chip running with PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 2GB of 1200MHz (effective of 4.8GHz) GDDR5, and a GPU clocking 850MHz with 1600 stream processing cores! This graphics card can support up to 6 DisplayPort monitors at 2560 x 1600. Despite this I don’t think I will be going higher than resolutions of 1920 x 1080 but I do hope to have 6 monitors in the future for this providing a display totalling 12.4MP. If i can get 6 monitors running at 2560 x 1600 that would give a CRAZY display resolution of 24.5MP which would be amazing to play games on as well as view photos and perform productive tasks!
As I build this immense computer I will be blogging, photographing and videoing everything for you all to see! This computer is set to take me 6 years to complete to it absolute maximum and will be worth every penny, which in case you are wondering, is (at current prices for the maximum I could build under these specs) approximately (and probably more than)… £12,000 but for what I will actually build I expect the total be £3500 (based on lowering costs in the years it will take to build and the fact I have no chance of maxing out some of the capabilities of this computer)!
